October is here, and with it, a new crop of ingredients for us to enjoy. The plump, glistening blackberries that adorned our hedgerows in late September, have now been plucked from their brambly home, and await an autumnal recipe to be relished.

Forget crumbles and custard, this month we’ve decided to shake up the usual blackberry prescription with our October apéritif - the French Martini.

The original French Martini is said to have been invented in the 1980s in New York, and contained vodka, pineapple juice and raspberry liqueur. We have added a Côte touch to this contemporary classic, inspired by our signature apéritif, the Kir Royale. Our version uses Grey Goose vodka, Crème de Cassis and pineapple juice, shaken with ice until well chilled.

We then serve over a splash of Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine, and garnish with a fresh blackberry - voilà! A French Martini, but with a Côte twist.

The outstanding quality and rich character of Grey Goose makes it perfect for crafting a cocktail of such sophistication. Made in France, from just two premium ingredients: single-origin soft winter wheat, and natural spring water from their own limestone well.

The ‘soft winter wheat’ (usually only reserved for fine French artisan bread), is sourced from local farming co-operatives, within 50 km of the Grey Goose distillery, in an area in the northern region of Hauts-de-France, Picardie. A stone’s throw from Cognac, the ‘Grey Goose Well’ is located in Gensac-la-Pallue – a small village in the Charente department of the south-west of France, known for producing world-renowned spirits. It is this commitment to quality that makes Grey Goose so special.

The wheat is milled on-site before a single, five-step distillation process. The dedication to diligence from the Maître de Chai or Cellar Master, Françoise Thibault means that every stage of the production process is 100% traceable from crop to cork. From harvest to milling, to distillation to bottling. The result is a spirit of superior quality; rich and aromatic, with notes of citrus, apple, and almond and a bright and clean finish.

Join us for a French Martini this October to experience this exceptional vodka, sweet seasonal blackberries, and to toast l'automne!
