Here is our very own Liz Hepple, who has really owned it when it comes to completing her workplace apprenticeship. Liz has worked in the Hospitality industry for many years and has been indeed a joyful figure around Côte for the past eight years.

She gives us an insight into her recent journey as an apprentice within the support office at Côte and how this has supported her career progression.

What was the apprenticeship qualification that you completed?

Level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management

 

How has the qualification helped you in your career?

Having moved over from the operations side of the business into HR – I felt that a professional qualification would expand my knowledge of the People function further and give me more confidence to perform my job role – which it certainly did!

 

How can the apprenticeship programme support succession in the business?

It encourages growth and development, which drives people to aim higher and push themselves to really achieve more.

 

What would you tell a Manager in Côte who was thinking about taking on an apprentice?

Go for it! Not only would you contribute to the development of a person's professional career, but it will also help you learn more about yourself.

 

If you could give advice to someone considering an apprenticeship in Côte, what would it be?

Never give up – you may find some of the journey tough going, but the rewards at the end are definitely worth it.

 

 Where could an apprenticeship within Côte’s support office take you?

It shows your commitment to your development and learning, which in turn will make you stand out against your peers. It could lead to many different avenues, and the possibilities are endless.

 

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship journey?

The discovery that I could achieve things I never thought I would have done. It's a real chance to better yourself, and having the time to invest in your development is vital these days.

 

Do you feel this has given you career opportunities?

Definitely – having my Level 5 is something that any future employers will undoubtedly see as a positive. But I'm not going anywhere quite yet!

 

Were you worried about completing an apprenticeship?

Yes, I was a little, but apparently, you actually can teach an old dog new tricks!

 

Were you nervous about completing an apprenticeship late into your career?

A little, yes, but with the support of my line manager, the apprenticeship coach, and my colleagues who were also on the journey with me – any nerves soon disappeared.
